AIDA Cruises lawsuit over ship amenities

A German couple has filed a lawsuit against AIDA Cruises in the Rostock District Court following a 128-day world cruise on the AIDAdiva. The plaintiffs, who paid approximately €70,000 for the voyage, are seeking a refund of roughly €15,400.

The dispute concerns changes made to the ship’s naturist (FKK) area during a refurbishment in early 2025. The plaintiffs allege that a previously spacious public nudist area on Deck 14 was converted into a private ‘Sky Deck’ reserved for suite guests, which does not permit nudity. They claim the remaining nudist section is inadequate, lacking the whirlpool, sun protection, and space they expected based on previous voyages. One plaintiff characterized the remaining area as a mere ‘dummy’ designed only to claim a naturist section still existed.

In August 2026, the Rostock District Court ruled in favor of the couple. The court found that because the passengers booked their trip in February 2024, they relied on online deck plans showing a spacious FKK area with a whirlpool, shower, and sun canopy. The court determined the passengers were entitled to a five percent reduction in the travel price because the ship's layout no longer met the reasonable expectations established by those original plans. The ruling is not yet legally binding.
