AIFA airport connectivity expansion in Mexico

In late July 2026, Mexicana de Aviación inaugurated a new 35‑minute flight linking the Aeropuerto Internacional Felipe Ángeles (AIFA) with the Aeropuerto Internacional del Bajío. The service, using Embraer 190/195 aircraft, operates six times a week, carries up to 132 passengers per flight and is priced between 1,500 and 3,000 pesos. The airline expects a 65 % load factor during an initial three‑month consolidation period and cites the route’s role in strengthening regional tourism, commerce and economic integration.

A few days later, the government of the state of Tamaulipas announced reinforced ground‑transport links that connect its airports in Tampico, Matamoros, Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa and Ciudad Victoria to Mexico City via AIFA. The initiative includes a dedicated exhibition area showcasing the state’s natural attractions and artisan products, and is promoted as a means to improve mobility, boost tourism and support regional development.

Together, the two announcements illustrate a broader push to integrate AIFA into Mexico’s national transport network, expanding both air and ground connectivity to promote tourism and economic growth across multiple regions.
