Airline labor disputes in France

Overview

Labor disputes have impacted multiple airlines operating in France during late August and early September 2026.

French bee crews, including cabin and technical personnel, initiated a strike from August 27 to August 31. Unions cited grievances regarding unstable work schedules, increasing fatigue from long-haul rotations, and inadequate compensation. While the airline attempted to mitigate disruptions by using management staff and chartering aircraft, some flight cancellations occurred.

Following this, pilots for the Spanish low-cost carrier Volotea called for a three-day strike from September 4 to September 6. The industrial action, led by the SNPL, UNAC, and SPL, is driven by concerns over poor working conditions and stagnant wages. Pilots noted that compensation has remained largely unchanged since 2012, contrasting with reported salary increases for company executives.

As of September 4, Volotea has announced the cancellation of 10 flights due to the strike. Disruptions include routes to Biarritz, Toulouse, Perpignan, Bordeaux, and Figari from the Lille base, as well as flights to Calvi from Strasbourg. The SNPL has characterized the current working conditions as among the “worst” in the market, noting that while management reportedly granted average salary increases of 23% in 2025, pilot wages have stagnated since 2012. To mitigate the impact, Volotea is contacting passengers regarding flight modifications and may utilize crews from Barcelona to maintain some continuity.
