Airtel Africa retail expansion

Overview

In late July 2026 Airtel announced a major scaling of its Nigerian retail presence, reporting over 200,000 customer touch‑points and more than 4,000 exclusive shops across all 36 states, alongside the addition of roughly 1,500 new base‑station sites. The expansion aims to bring SIM registration, airtime, data, device sales and support closer to customers and to narrow the gap with rival MTN.

A few days later the company extended the same strategy to Malawi, opening a modern Airtel Shop in Lilongwe’s Area 10 Ekhaya Shopping Complex. The outlet offers 5G broadband, SIM registration, device sales and Airtel Money services, underscoring Airtel’s commitment to delivering digital and financial services across the region.
