Overview

Alabama has implemented new initiatives to bolster its workforce and industrial sectors. Lawson State Community College’s Lineworker Training Program became the first in the state to receive approval through the Workforce Pell process, which expands federal Pell Grant eligibility to short-term, career-focused training. Developed with Alabama Power, this 10-week program provides over 400 hours of hands-on instruction in areas such as power line installation and ladder safety.

Additionally, the Alabama Training Network (ATN) received $2.19 million from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). As the state’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership Center, ATN will utilize these funds to help small and medium-sized manufacturers adopt advanced technologies, including robotics, automation, artificial intelligence, and additive manufacturing, to improve industrial productivity.
