Albanian infrastructure and transport development

Overview

The Albanian government has initiated several large-scale infrastructure and transport projects. The Council of Ministers approved property expropriations for the Elbasan–Qafëthanë road project and sanitation works in Vlorë, with compensation for private owners to be funded through the state budget. Additionally, a contract was awarded to a consortium for the completion of the Qafa e Buallit–Martanesh road, a project whose total procurement value has nearly doubled to approximately €19 million.

While the Albanian Development Fund (FSHZH) has announced a €10 million tender to modernize public transport through the acquisition of electric and hybrid vehicles and the installation of smart stations, the organization has faced scrutiny. Reports in Saranda indicate that recent investments, such as stone mosaic roads and a new bus terminal at Qafë Gjashtë, have suffered from poor construction quality and maintenance issues.
