Albanian political controversy over KAYO company

Albanian opposition leaders have raised allegations regarding the state-owned company KAYO, claiming it facilitates the bypass of public financial controls. Enno Bozdo of the Democratic Party described the company as a “legal shell” used to transfer state monopoly rights to private entities without transparency or competitive bidding. Bozdo noted that KAYO showed no production activity in its 2024-2025 balance sheets, instead focusing on creating companies with private partners. He called for a moratorium on public companies holding state assets and demanded mandatory international tenders for future partnerships.

Following these claims, Tedi Blushi, Secretary General of the Freedom Party, escalated the critique by accusing Prime Minister Edi Rama of undermining state institutions. Blushi characterized the situation as a threat to national security and a mechanism for the misappropriation of public funds. He further alleged that Ron Yeffet holds significant de facto power across the defense, finance, and energy sectors, describing the matter as a systemic issue involving the suppression of law and institutional oversight.
