Aleksander Aamodt Kilde Achilles tendon injury

Overview

Norwegian alpine skier Aleksander Aamodt Kilde sustained an Achilles tendon injury during a downhill training session in Chile. Initial reports identified the injury as a tear, noting it as a significant setback for the 33-year-old speed specialist who was attempting a World Cup comeback following previous severe injuries, including a major crash in Wengen in January 2024.

Subsequent updates clarified that the injury was an Achilles tendon rupture. Kilde, now 34, expressed feeling “devastated, angry, and frustrated” regarding the “brutal” setback. Following the accident, he returned to Innsbruck for medical examinations. Despite the injury occurring just before the start of the new World Cup season in Sölden, Austria, Kilde stated he has a rehabilitation plan in place.

As of late October, the injury has effectively ended Kilde’s World Cup season before its commencement. While he remains focused on rehabilitation, he has not yet decided if he will return to professional racing.
