Alfa Romeo production and sales shifts

Overview

Stellantis is reorganizing the production of Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio models at its Cassino plant in Italy. Following a significant decline in plant output—dropping from over 135,000 vehicles in 2017 to an estimated 26,800 in 2024—the manufacturing process is shifting from high-volume assembly lines to a more manual approach in a specialized area called Fabbricato 0. This method, which mirrors Ferrari production, focuses on smaller, more precise series. Current generations of these models are expected to remain in production until at least the end of 2027.

In October 2026, Alfa Romeo introduced significant promotional discounts on both the Stelvio SUV and Giulia sedan to support sales. These offers, supported by Stellantis Financial Services, include reductions exceeding 10,000 euros on various trims, with high-performance Quadrifoglio models seeing specific reductions of approximately 13,000 euros.

Concurrently, Alfa Romeo announced a renewal of its vehicle lineup. For the 2027 model year, the Giulia and Stelvio will be streamlined into four trims: Sprint, Veloce, Edizione Luna Rossa, and Quadrifoglio. The Quadrifoglio models will utilize a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6, while other markets may receive 2.0-litre petrol or 2.2-litre turbodiesel engines. Testing has also been observed for the 2027 Stelvio Quadrifoglio, which is expected to feature an Euro 7 compliant engine.

Additional updates have been identified for the Junior and Tonale MY27 models. The Junior compact SUV will feature new customization options, including wheel diameters from 17 to 20 inches, new hybrid and plug-in engine options, and an upgraded interior. The Tonale range will include the Tonale, Sprint, Ti, Veloce, and Luna Rossa trims, with the Veloce trim featuring 19-inch wheels, Full LED Matrix headlights, Brembo red calipers, and Alcantara seating. Regarding long-term strategy, Santo Ficili, CEO of Alfa Romeo and Maserati, stated that the future of the next-generation Giulia and Stelvio is “currently under review.”
