Algeria cancer care and prevention strategy
Overview
Algerian health authorities have launched a strategic expansion to address rising cancer rates, which saw a 34% increase over the last decade. At the 2nd International Cancer Patient Congress, officials announced the integration of 52 new treatments, including immunotherapy and targeted therapies, into the national pharmacopoeia.
To fund these efforts, the Cancer Fight Fund has exceeded 73 billion dinars. For 2026, 40 billion dinars are allocated specifically for oncological treatments. The government also plans to expand infrastructure by adding 25 radiotherapy services and 16 linear accelerators by 2028. A holistic approach is being implemented through the Ministry of National Solidarity, Family, and Women’s Condition, providing psychological support and free medication for uninsured vulnerable individuals.
In conjunction with these systemic upgrades, medical experts are emphasizing the necessity of early detection and understanding treatment circuits, particularly regarding breast cancer screening initiatives.
