Algerian administrative and local government reorganization
Overview
Algeria has initiated a series of administrative reorganizations and leadership appointments within its Ministry of the Interior, Local Authorities and Transport.
Initially, Youcef Romane was appointed as the new Secretary General of the ministry. Minister Saïd Sayoud noted that Romane’s background in the General Directorate of Local Authorities is intended to improve coordination between central administration and decentralized services to enhance public service efficiency.
Following this, a broader movement of appointments was implemented by presidential decision, affecting walis, delegated walis, and secretaries-general. This reorganization included the installation of Abdelkrim Ben Baba Ali as the wali of El-Aricha, marking its transition into a full wilaya, and Lakhdar Seddas as the wali of Nâama. Minister Sayoud characterized these changes as a ‘qualitative leap in development and public affairs management’ designed to bring services closer to citizens and promote local investment.
