Alghero environmental and park governance reforms

The Municipality of Alghero is engaging with regional authorities regarding environmental protections and park governance in Sardinia.

Initially, the municipality requested an extension for the consultation period concerning the expansion of the ‘Costa ed Entroterra di Bosa, Suni e Montresta’ Special Protection Zone. Councilor Roberto Corbia noted that the summer consultation period hindered community participation and requested the deadline for observations be moved from September 15 to October 15. The municipality also called for public meetings and the involvement of Porto Conte Park to assess environmental and socio-economic impacts.

Subsequently, a proposed regional law in Sardinia aims to reform the governance of all regional parks. This reform includes specific provisions for Porto Conte Park, which is the only regional park consisting of a single municipality. Under the proposal, the Alghero City Council would gain increased oversight, including the power to provide mandatory opinions and votes on fundamental acts like the Park Plan, as well as responsibility for identifying the executive committee.
