In mid‑July 2026, Forza Italia municipal councillors in Alghero condemned a €10 million budget amendment as a “race for visibility” within the centre‑left administration, arguing that the spending should be a collective decision and warning that the dispute distracts from pressing urban problems such as decay, traffic and parking.

A week later, Fratelli d’Italia representatives accused the regional majority of marginalising Alghero by keeping the city out of the presidency and vice‑presidency of the newly formed socio‑health district covering Alghero and neighbouring municipalities. The mayor of Alghero refuted the claim, pointing to a recent district meeting that produced a cooperative leadership arrangement and emphasizing that the city remains integrated in the district’s governance.
