Alleged assault dispute involving West Sumatra police
Overview
Teddy Fanani, the Director of General Criminal Investigation for the West Sumatra Regional Police, was accused of assaulting a driver, Billy Irzano, following a traffic dispute near Minangkabau International Airport. Irzano reported that after an improper overtaking maneuver, four individuals from Fanani’s vehicle exited and struck him in the eye, breaking his glasses. The incident led to reports being filed with the West Sumatra Police Propam division and drew public scrutiny toward Fanani’s financial disclosures.
The dispute was later resolved through a peaceful settlement following a meeting in Padang. Fanani issued a formal apology to Irzano and his family, acknowledging his mistakes. Irzano’s family stated they decided to forgive the officer to avoid prolonged conflict and to allow Irzano to return to work. The family clarified they are not seeking financial compensation and denied any intimidation. Consequently, the legal reports filed against Fanani are scheduled to be withdrawn.
