Overview

Authorities in Liechtenstein and Switzerland are implementing new management strategies to address growing wolf populations and mitigate livestock damage. In late August 2026, Liechtenstein announced plans to revise its “Concept Wolf Liechtenstein” following the formation of the cross-border “Falknis” pack. Simultaneously, the Swiss canton of Graubünden received federal approval to proactively remove up to two-thirds of young wolves in specific packs and requested the complete removal of the Calderas pack.

By mid-September 2026, the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment extended these proactive regulation measures to the Canton of Valais. Permission was granted to remove two-thirds of pups from the Nendaz-Isérables and Les Toules packs through January 2027. Valais authorities have also applied for the total removal of the Nanz, Augstbord, and Réchy-Anniviers packs to minimize human-wildlife conflict.
