Alstom rolling stock procurement in Romania

Overview

The Romanian Railway Reform Authority (ARF) has begun the preliminary acceptance and testing of new Alstom-manufactured rail vehicles.

In late September 2026, the ARF completed the preliminary reception and Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for two Alstom Traxx Passenger electric locomotives, LE12 and LE13. These locomotives are part of a contract for 16 multi-system units intended for operation by CFR Călători on major interregional routes.

By mid-October 2026, the process expanded to include the preliminary acceptance of two Coradia Stream inter-regional electric trainsets, units TS23 and TS24. These units, transported from Germany, are part of a larger order for 37 new electric trainsets. This specific batch is allocated to the operator InterRegional Călători.

For both the locomotives and the trainsets, final ownership transfer is contingent upon the completion of 2,000 km endurance tests and the signing of official acceptance protocols.
