Amalfi Coast tourism and infrastructure management

Overview

Tourism on the Amalfi Coast is experiencing seasonal shifts, with the high season now extending beyond October. While the rise of vacation homes and bed and breakfasts may support year-round operations for local businesses, infrastructure and services have not fully adapted. Many beach clubs dismantle facilities at the end of September, and reduced evening public transportation routes make movement difficult for those without private vehicles.

Environmental concerns have also emerged, as recent fires have left the terrain vulnerable to potential issues from seasonal rains.

To manage the high volume of visitors during peak periods, Italian police conducted intensive traffic safety operations from July 1 to August 31. Utilizing 168 motorcycle patrols, authorities inspected over 1,100 vehicles and 1,400 individuals, resulting in 454 recorded traffic violations, 136 sanctions for improper driving, and 27 revoked driver's licenses. Law enforcement also performed breathalyzer and drug tests to monitor driver fitness.
