Amazon corporate workforce reductions

Overview

Amazon has implemented multiple rounds of job cuts across various divisions. In early October 2026, the company confirmed the elimination of fewer than 1,000 white-collar roles within its Stores division, affecting customer service, engineering, and marketplace support roles in the United States, India, and the United Kingdom. These reductions followed a larger restructuring period between 2025 and early 2026.

Later in the month, the company announced approximately 250 additional job cuts specifically within its devices and services unit. These layoffs primarily impacted software development roles. Employees were notified via email and text messages; Cherie Robinson, the vice president of human resources for the division, stated that the company had undergone a ‘thorough review of our structure.’ A company spokesperson noted the reductions were intended to help the company ‘operate more efficiently and better align with our product roadmap.’ These cuts occurred shortly after the rollout of new products, including Kindle e-readers, tablets, and various Alexa-powered devices.
