Amitabh Bachchan personal anecdotes on Kaun Banega Crorepati

During appearances on the quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, actor Amitabh Bachchan has shared various personal and family anecdotes.

Bachchan discussed his family history, noting that his father, poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, adopted the surname ‘Bachchan’ to reject the caste system. He recalled his father refusing to provide a caste designation during his school enrollment, stating, ‘Our caste is Bachchan.’

In discussions during ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 18’, the actor touched upon his relationship with his son, Abhishek Bachchan, describing their bond as a friendship and mentioning Abhishek’s refusal to eat fruit. Bachchan also reflected on his own past, including a former interest in the Indian Foreign Service, and recited poetry by his father regarding heritage and generational connections.

During an episode featuring guests Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar promoting the film ‘Haiwaan’, Bachchan revealed a family connection between himself and Saif Ali Khan through the Kapoor family. He explained that his daughter, Shweta Bachchan, is married to Nikhil Nanda, the son of Raj Kapoor’s daughter, Ritu Kapoor. Because Saif Ali Khan is married to Kareena Kapoor, the granddaughter of Raj Kapoor, the families are linked. Bachchan light-heartedly questioned how he should address Kareena Kapoor given these extended family ties.

The guests, Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar, were promoting the crime thriller ‘Haiwaan’, directed by Priyadarshan and scheduled for release on September 11, 2026. The film is a contemporary reimagining of the 2016 Malayalam film ‘Oppam’, featuring Akshay Kumar as a psychopath and Saif Ali Khan as a visually impaired man. Akshay Kumar noted he consulted police friends to prepare for his role, and the film's makers released a tribute to veteran actor Asrani.
