AMPB protests and subsequent tensions in Jakarta

The Aliansi Masyarakat Pati Bersatu (AMPB) conducted a demonstration in front of the Indonesian Parliament complex in Jakarta on August 27, 2026. The group demanded that the government and the DPR pass the Asset Forfeiture Bill and impose heavy punishments on corruptors.

Following the protest, the group returned to Pati, Central Java. AMPB leader Supriyono reported that the journey was marked by tension and instances of intimidation.

Subsequent tensions emerged between the AMPB and online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers. Ojol representatives expressed disappointment after the AMPB departed Jakarta immediately following a meeting with parliamentary leaders, perceiving a lack of gratitude for local support. AMPB leadership clarified that their departure was intended to maintain their commitment to a peaceful demonstration without causing chaos.

Additionally, online accusations surfaced regarding ojol representative Melva Pardede, claiming she was a political provocateur. Politician Jhon Sitorus refuted these claims, stating that images circulating online depicting her with political party attributes were likely generated by artificial intelligence.
