Andalusia agricultural and fishing sector support

The Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development of Andalusia has initiated several programs to support the region’s primary sector.

In mid-September, the government opened applications for the 20th Andalusia Agriculture and Fishing Awards. The awards recognize professional achievements and entities contributing to competitiveness, sustainability, and socio-economic development across eight categories, including technological innovation, water commitment, and female entrepreneurship.

Following this, the Junta de Andalucía announced a financial aid package exceeding 9.5 million euros for the 2026 fishing and aquaculture sector, co-financed by the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (FEMPA). Over 8.5 million euros are earmarked to compensate shipowners and crew members for temporary halts in fishing activities, specifically targeting Mediterranean trawling, Gulf of Cádiz fleets, and small-scale octopus fishing. An additional 755,000 euros will fund vessel equipment and onboard actions intended to reduce environmental impact and promote marine sustainability.

In late September, regional officials further highlighted the need for sufficient funding in the next Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to protect Andalusia’s leading organic production sector.

By late September, the regional government expanded its support measures, allocating 12 million euros to assist the agro-industry following storm damage experienced in late 2025 and early 2026. Furthermore, 8.4 million euros have been approved for emergency works to repair riverbeds in Almería and Huelva, a move intended to mitigate hydrological risks following summer wildfires.
