Angola telecommunications infrastructure development
Overview
Angola is implementing several initiatives to expand its telecommunications infrastructure and increase the sector’s contribution to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
In Benguela province, Angola Telecom launched the ‘Tudo Nosso’ fiber optic network in Baía Farta Centralidade and completed a section of the National Fiber Optic Network reaching Lobito. This infrastructure provides approximately 400 Gb of capacity to support local operators. Additionally, under the ‘Angola Online’ project, free internet access was provided to a primary school in the Baía Farta area.
On a national level, the government is pursuing digital transformation and economic diversification through projects such as ‘Conecta Angola Comercial’, which aims to expand satellite internet in border regions. The Ministry of Telecommunications is also working to foster the national startup ecosystem and is seeking cooperation with the Democratic Republic of the Congo regarding signal management and electronic communications in border zones.
