Animal welfare and protection initiatives in Greece

Overview

Animal welfare and protection initiatives have been highlighted through various campaigns and events in Greece.

In early September, the Special Secretariat for the Protection of Companion Animals launched a campaign at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition. Using a mascot named ‘Fylakas’, the initiative focused on promoting empathy and responsibility, specifically through the ‘Safe Together, on Every Journey’ program which provides guidance on the safe transportation of pets in vehicles.

Following this, multiple organizations organized events in late September to observe World Animal Day. These activities included adoption events in Nea Erythraia to support animals rescued from wildfires and the ‘A Day with My Pet’ celebration in Kifissia. These efforts aimed to connect residents with stray animals and provided information regarding new veterinary services, such as the Amarousiou–Kifissia Intermunicipal Veterinary Clinic.
