Anti-corruption efforts in Montenegro and Serbia
Overview
In Montenegro, the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (ASK) has initiated an educational program for legal obligors to prepare for the upcoming election cycle. Developed with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), the program focuses on the new Law on the Financing of Political Entities and Election Campaigns to prevent the misuse of public resources. Additionally, the Director of ASK, Kristina Braletić, met with the French Ambassador to Montenegro to discuss strengthening agency capacities and enhancing cooperation in areas such as whistleblower protection and conflict of interest mechanisms as part of the country’s European integration process.
In Serbia, the Anti-Corruption Agency identified violations by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) during the parliamentary election campaign. The agency found that the party distributed promotional materials, including leaflets and brochures, across 26 cities without providing the legally required information regarding the entity responsible for their production.
