Anti-Ukrainian incidents in Poznań

Overview

A series of incidents involving anti-Ukrainian sentiment and aggression occurred in Poznań in late August 2026.

On August 22, a physical altercation took place at the Cytadela park after a man intervened to stop an individual from harassing a woman and child with anti-Ukrainian slogans. The witness, identified as Robert, was assaulted and required medical treatment. The aggressor, who was intoxicated, was detained by police.

On August 30, a separate incident occurred at the Odessa Market shop, where a 50-year-old man allegedly insulted female employees of Ukrainian nationality, telling them to “return to Ukraine”. The suspect also reportedly defaced the storefront with spray paint and stole items. The man was apprehended by police on August 31 and remains in custody.
