Anton Gavel coaching transition at FC Bayern Munich

Anton Gavel has been appointed as the head coach of the FC Bayern Munich basketball team on a three-year contract. His appointment followed a controversial departure from the Bamberg Baskets. While Bamberg suggested the move was an attempt to avoid paying a transfer fee, Gavel cited contract errors and stated that the clubs had reached an “amicable agreement.”

In the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) season opener, Gavel led FC Bayern Munich to a dominant 108:72 victory over his former club, the Bamberg Baskets. The match, which saw Bayern leading 55:28 at halftime, was highly anticipated due to the friction surrounding Gavel’s transfer. During the game, six Bayern players scored in double digits, including Justinian Jessup and Johannes Voigtmann, who both contributed 15 points.

The victory occurs amidst ongoing tension regarding Gavel’s contract. Bamberg shareholder Michael Stoschek accused Gavel of breaking his contract through “legal technicalities regarding a digital signature,” an allegation Gavel has denied. Following a loss in last season’s finals to Alba Berlin, Bayern President Herbert Hainer has set a clear goal for the team to secure the German championship.
