Apple iOS custom ringtone updates

Overview

In July 2026 Apple released iOS 26, which let iPhone users pick any short audio file (MP3, M4A, AAC or WAV) stored in the Files app and set it as a ringtone directly from the Share menu. The change removed the need for GarageBand, a computer, or iTunes and fulfilled a long‑standing user request, though DRM‑protected Apple Music tracks remained unusable.

Later that same day Apple announced iOS 27, which builds on the iOS 26 capability by adding an instant “Set as ringtone” option that creates the tone without leaving the Files app. The update also introduces “Call Context,” an Apple Intelligence feature that pulls relevant information from other apps and displays it during business calls, available in English on compatible devices.
