Apple prepares September 9 launch for iPhone 18 and Watch

Apple is preparing for a major hardware event on September 9, which may mark the first keynote led by CEO John Ternus. The launch is expected to feature the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, alongside the debut of the company’s first foldable smartphone, rumored to be named the iPhone Ultra.

Technical leaks regarding the iPhone 18 Pro suggest significant camera upgrades, including a possible variable aperture and new software tools within iOS 27 such as exposure scopes, focus peaking, and histograms. The series may be powered by the A20 Pro chip, rumored to feature a 7-core GPU and a 2nm manufacturing process. New reports also suggest the inclusion of a new C2 modem developed by Apple. The rumored iPhone Ultra is expected to feature a thin design with a liquid metal hinge and may utilize a side Touch ID sensor instead of Face ID to maintain its slim profile.

For the Apple Watch, the upcoming Series 12 and Ultra 4 models are expected to receive hardware and software enhancements. These include a potential increase in storage capacity to 128GB, a new optical sensor system called ‘Sunstone4p0’ for improved heart rate accuracy, and a new Readiness app designed to track physical recovery. New health features may also allow for more detailed strength training logs, including sets, repetitions, and weight used. However, some existing features, such as the Walkie-Talkie app and specific digital crown shortcuts, may be removed in the watchOS 27 update. Cybersecurity experts have also warned of phishing scams targeting users during this high-anticipation period.
