Archetyp darknet marketplace legal proceedings
Overview
Legal actions are progressing against individuals linked to Archetyp, a massive darknet drug marketplace that was shut down in the summer of 2025. Prosecutors describe the platform as one of the largest of its kind globally, facilitating millions of orders and an estimated turnover of hundreds of millions of euros through cryptocurrency.
In Frankfurt, the 31-year-old operator of the marketplace confessed to founding and running the platform, stating, ‘That was a big mistake and I deeply regret my actions.’ Investigations revealed the scale of illegal trade included tons of narcotics such as cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl. The operator was previously arrested in Barcelona.
Simultaneously, legal proceedings have moved to Sweden, where three men face sentencing for their roles as moderators for the site. Authorities have noted a significant connection between the marketplace and organized crime groups involved in violent activities.
