Argentina 2027 election preparations
Overview
The National Electoral Chamber in Argentina has raised logistical concerns regarding the 2027 elections. The judiciary is evaluating the challenges of implementing two different voting systems on the same day in the City and Province of Buenos Aires. Specifically, the country will introduce the Single Paper Ballot for national presidential elections, which may conflict with the traditional party ballot system used for local positions. This dual-system approach could lead to security demands, logistical complications, and voter delays. If the Chamber prohibits combining these systems, provincial leaders may need to decouple local elections from the national calendar. In preparation for the October 24, 2027, elections, which will determine the President, Vice President, and members of Congress, the National Electoral Directorate and the National Electoral Chamber have released the provisional extraordinary voter registry. Citizens have until November 30, 2026, to consult the registry via the official website, padron.gob.ar, to verify names, ID numbers, and registered addresses. This period allows voters to identify errors or omissions and submit claims through the National Electoral Justice system. Provisional rolls have been specifically released in the provinces of La Pampa and Chaco. In La Pampa, residents can report errors or request changes throughout November 2026. In Chaco, the provisional roll identifies 1,030,364 eligible voters across 25 departments. As of November 2, 2026, the National Electoral Chamber has officially opened the provisional voter registry. In this preliminary stage, the registry displays names, surnames, electoral sections, and circuits, but specific polling stations and table numbers will only be provided in the definitive registry. This stage is noted as particularly relevant for young people voting for the first time.
