Argentina airport infrastructure development

Overview

Argentina is undertaking significant airport infrastructure developments and modernization efforts. In La Plata, local authorities have initiated a strategic plan to concession the La Plata Airport to private operators for 30 years, involving an estimated $93 million investment. This project includes building a passenger terminal for low-cost airlines and a multimodal logistics center with an industrial cold storage plant to support agricultural exports.

On a national scale, Aeropuertos Argentina has announced a USD 1.5 billion investment plan over five years to upgrade 33 air terminals. This initiative is part of a broader USD 7.5 billion long-term infrastructure strategy following an agreement to extend the concession contract for 35 airports. The program, supported by company funds and the National Airport System Strengthening Trust, includes USD 506 million for regional airport expansions in cities such as Bariloche, Córdoba, Mendoza, Esquel, Puerto Madryn, Iguazú, and Viedma to enhance connectivity for tourism and local economic activity.

Major hub upgrades are also central to the plan. At Ezeiza International Airport, the project involves constructing new international and dedicated domestic arrivals terminals. Additionally, a USD 200 million modernization project is planned for Aeroparque Jorge Newbery in Buenos Aires, which will feature the installation of six new boarding bridges and a 14,000 square meter boarding area to increase capacity.
