Argentina beef sustainability labor certification

Overview

The Mesa Argentina de Carne Sustentable (MACS) and the National Registry of Rural Workers and Employers (RENATRE) have established an agreement to integrate labor certification into the Argentine beef sustainability seal.

To obtain the MACS sustainability label, livestock establishments must now secure the RENATRE Business Certification for Sustainable Labor Practices (PLS). This requirement makes the previously voluntary PLS a mandatory prerequisite for the MACS seal, specifically addressing the ‘Working Conditions and Worker Rights’ indicator.

The initiative is designed to enhance social traceability within the meat supply chain—including producers, transporters, and meatpacking plants—to meet global demands for social responsibility. The certification process verifies compliance with labor laws, such as formal employment registration, occupational health and safety, union freedom, and the prevention of child labor and exploitation.
