In early July 2026 Argentine provinces launched credit‑relief programmes for debt‑burdened households and small‑and‑medium enterprises. Governor Axel Kicillof of Buenos Aires introduced a refinancing plan with lower interest rates and longer terms, while Tucumán’s governor signed a deal to expand subsidised loans for local firms.

By late July the emphasis shifted to direct subsidies and fee reductions for merchants. Buenos Aires province approved a 300 million‑peso subsidy for businesses in Bahía Blanca, to be distributed by the provincial Chamber of Commerce and municipal authorities using a financial‑vulnerability index that targets roughly 300 firms. In Viña del Mar, Chile, Mayor Macarena Ripamonti reduced municipal permit fees for market stalls and extended payment deadlines to aid vendors hit by flooding and a declared climate emergency.

A further step came on 28 July when Vice‑Governor Verónica Magario and Banco Provincia president Juan Cuattromo hosted a meeting with more than 30 mayors from across Buenos Aires Province. The participants pledged new financing lines and resources for municipalities, workers and residents to mitigate rising debt, arrears and loss of purchasing power, signalling a coordinated provincial effort to sustain local economies.

Together, these developments illustrate an escalating subnational push in Argentina and Chile, moving from credit‑focused relief to broader fiscal support for merchants, municipalities and vulnerable households.
