Argentina counterfeit baby formula investigation

Overview

Argentine authorities launched an investigation into a criminal network distributing counterfeit and adulterated “SanCor Bebé Advance 1” infant formula. The investigation, overseen by the Federal Court No. 2 of Lomas de Zamora, began after parents reported adverse health effects in children.

Federal Police conducted 14 raids across the City of Buenos Aires and several districts in the Buenos Aires province, seizing over 500 units. Laboratory analysis by SENASA revealed that the counterfeit product contained Aflatoxin M1 at concentrations exceeding legal limits by more than six times, posing a severe toxicological risk to infants. Five individuals, including Argentine, Chinese, and Paraguayan nationals, were identified in connection with the operation.

The Ministry of Health issued a public alert regarding the specific batch, identified as L: Y010 F-011207563, with a production date of 10/01/26 and an expiration date of 10/04/27. While reports of the counterfeit product were concentrated in Buenos Aires, health authorities in Río Negro were instructed to reinforce preventive controls. The counterfeit packaging was noted for typographical errors, such as “Adventencia” and “oelico,” and the inclusion of 3D-printed measuring spoons.
