Argentina insurance regulatory developments
Overview
The Argentine National Superintendency of Insurance (SSN) has taken several regulatory and supervisory actions within the domestic insurance market.
In early September 2026, the SSN prohibited Libra Compañía Argentina de Seguros S. A. and Comarseg Compañía Argentina de Seguros S. A. from issuing new policies. These sanctions followed the companies’ failure to submit required financial statements and audit reports. In the case of Libra Seguros, an auditor was unable to validate technical operation controls or account balances due to being appointed after the legal deadline.
By October 2026, the SSN introduced Resolution 415/2026 to reorganize the passenger transport insurance sector. This regulation split the branch into two sub-branches: ‘Passenger Transport – Public Services’ and ‘Passenger Transport – Excluded Public Services’. The new rules mandate deductibles for the public services sub-branch while allowing discretion for the excluded sub-branch.
During this period, SSN Superintendent Guillermo Plate also addressed the Association of Insurers of the Interior of the Argentine Republic (ADIRA), emphasizing the need for the market to develop capacity to manage risks in growing sectors such as mining, agriculture, and the knowledge industry.
