Argentina provincial health coverage continuity

Overview

On July 30, Boreal Salud reported that its medical coverage for more than 250,000 members remained fully operational across eleven Argentine provinces, despite a limited disruption in Tucumán after its contract with the local clinic association (ACYST) ended. The insurer set up a coordination system to handle urgent surgeries and hospitalizations in Tucumán and pledged rapid reimbursement, while keeping all other benefits unchanged.

The following day, the health institutes of Tucumán (IPSST) and Salta (IPS) signed a new reciprocity agreement that replaces a 2005 pact. The updated accord introduces modern mechanisms for service provision, billing and payment, allowing affiliates of each institute to receive care in the other province when residing, studying, working or transiting there. Officials highlighted the agreement as essential for maintaining continuous coverage and indicated plans to negotiate similar deals with additional provinces, reinforcing broader efforts to ensure uninterrupted health services across the region.
