Argentina storm-induced power outages
Overview
In early August, a severe storm hit Argentina’s Chaco province, damaging medium‑voltage lines and causing widespread outages in Resistencia and surrounding neighborhoods. The provincial utility Secheep mobilised crews to repair lines on routes such as line 15C in General San Martín and rural circuits in Capitán Solari, Colonia Elisa, La Verde, Lapachito and Presidencia de la Plaza. At the same time, a truck accident in Arturo Seguí, La Pampa, knocked down overhead cables, leaving homes and businesses on Calle 154 without power; local utility Edelap took charge of repairs while volunteer firefighters secured the area.
Two days later, power cuts in Concordia, Argentina, halted the operation of the Complejo Roca water‑pumping system, temporarily interrupting potable water service for several city sectors. Authorities urged residents to conserve water until electricity was restored. In neighboring Chile, utility Frontel announced permanent supervision of its distribution network ahead of an approaching frontal system expected to bring heavy rain, wind, snow and low temperatures, coordinating with regional authorities to protect critical services.
The snapshots illustrate a continuing pattern of weather‑related electricity disruptions across Argentina, with cascading effects on water supply, and parallel precautionary measures by a Chilean utility anticipating similar weather challenges.
