Argentine energy and nuclear sector reorganization

The Argentine government has undertaken significant administrative and leadership changes within its energy and nuclear sectors. In late July, President Javier Milei reorganized the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA) through Decree 673/2026, appointing nuclear engineer Enrique Gustavo Gennuso as vice president. This coincided with Decree 655/2026, which reduced the agency’s organizational units by approximately 58%, cutting the structure from 645 to 272 units to streamline management across nuclear energy, research, and safety sectors.

By late August, leadership shifts extended to the Senate’s Commission of Mining, Energy, and Fuels. Senator Pablo Cervi of La Libertad Avanza was elected secretary, a decision that displaced Julieta Corroza and caused tension with the Neuquén provincial government. The new commission leadership also includes Flavia Royón as president and Flavio Fama as vice president. Following these appointments, the commission held sessions to discuss a new biofuels framework, though proceedings faced temporary quorum issues.
