Argentine gastronomic recognition and rankings
Overview
Argentina’s culinary sector has seen recent developments regarding both heritage preservation and international recognition.
In Buenos Aires, local authorities and the Association of Hotels, Restaurants, Confectioneries and Cafes (AHRCC) expanded the city’s gastronomic heritage catalog by designating eight new iconic restaurants. These establishments, ranging from El Globo (founded 1908) to Puerto Cristal (1995), were selected based on age, social relevance, and menu authenticity to bolster tourism promotion.
Separately, Argentine dining received global acclaim in the TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best 2026. Fogón Asado in Buenos Aires secured first place, marking its second consecutive year as the best restaurant in the world according to the rankings. Located in the Palermo Soho district, the establishment specializes in Argentine open-fire grilling, offering guests a choice between a nine-course tasting menu or a 14-course Chef’s Counter menu featuring items such as Provoleta cheese, Rib-Eye steak, and Tira de Asado.
Other notable Argentine rankings in the Fine Dining category included Abrasado in Mendoza at sixth place and El Mercado in Buenos Aires at tenth. The TripAdvisor rankings are based on traveler reviews and ratings collected over a 12-month period, representing less than 1% of the eight million establishments listed on the platform. In the global top three, Fogón Asado was followed by Koma Singapore in second place and The Rhythms Restaurant in Hanoi, Vietnam, in third. European representation in the top five includes The Witchery Restaurant in Edinburgh, Scotland, in fourth place and Meat Market in Valencia, Spain, in fifth.
