Argentine human milk donation initiatives

Overview

In Argentina, healthcare facilities have intensified efforts to secure breast milk supplies for neonatal care. Initially, the Hospital Materno Neonatal de Posadas issued an urgent appeal for “solidarity mothers” to donate surplus milk to support premature babies and newborns, noting a seasonal decline in donations.

Following these efforts, the Olavarría Human Milk Collection Center successfully completed its first delivery to the Human Milk Bank at Hospital San Martín in La Plata. This delivery included 2,608 milliliters of milk from three mothers. The Olavarría center has now joined the Province of Buenos Aires Network of Human Milk Banks and Collection Centers, facilitating the collection, pasteurization, and distribution of milk to neonatology patients based on medical prescriptions.
