Argentine municipal food safety training initiatives
Overview
Municipalities across Argentina are implementing training programs to facilitate food handler certifications in compliance with the Argentine Food Code.
In Río Grande, the municipality has introduced a mandatory online course through the Directorate of Bromatology. To obtain the non-transferable certification, which is valid nationwide for three years, residents must complete online training, pass an exam, and provide a medical certificate confirming fitness for food handling.
Other municipalities, such as Famaillá and Colón, are also conducting specialized training. In Famaillá, programs cover food safety, quality, and nutritional labeling for entrepreneurs and street vendors. Following Decree 697/2026, these certificates are now permanent and no longer require periodic renewal. In Colón, training focuses on Good Manufacturing Practices for staff in community dining halls, nurseries, and local schools, coordinated with provincial authorities.
