Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process

Overview

Following a 2025 White House summit, Armenia and Azerbaijan have moved toward normalizing relations and ending the isolation of the South Caucasus. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has characterized the peace process as a “concrete reality,” noting that while a formal “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations” awaits final signing, regional transport routes are being reopened.

On the first anniversary of the summit, the United States, Armenia, and Azerbaijan issued a joint statement highlighting progress on the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), a multimodal transit project. The U.S. and Armenia have agreed to form the TRIPP Development Company to manage infrastructure work, with engineering surveys currently underway in Armenia and significant infrastructure work nearing completion in Azerbaijan.

Further developments include the United States allocating $201 million to the Trans-Caspian Enterprise Fund to support the Middle Corridor trade route. Azerbaijan has also unilaterally removed all transit restrictions on Armenia. As part of the normalization process, the OSCE Minsk Group has been officially dissolved. In recognition of his mediation efforts, President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Pashinyan have jointly nominated Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
