Aruba Minister private jet transparency dispute

Aruban Minister Gerlien Croes is facing parliamentary scrutiny regarding the transparency of a private jet trip taken to Curaçao in November 2025. Lawmakers Evelyn Wever-Croes and Rocco Tjon initially issued a 48-hour demand for a decision on the matter, arguing that legal deadlines for providing documentation had expired under the Administrative Jurisprudence (LAR) Advisory Committee’s guidance.

The dispute involves requests for documentary proof, including passenger lists, contracts, and cost details. While Minister Croes has suggested that inquiries into her travel constitute an attempt to monitor her personal salary and private expenses, critics maintain the issue concerns the duty of a cabinet member to account for travel facilitated in an official capacity.

Following recommendations from the LAR Objection Commission, which ruled that objections regarding the jet's use were “well-founded,” the Minister has declined to provide full transparency. Parliamentary members have characterized this refusal to provide requested documentation as a violation of principles of good governance and integrity.
