Aruba-Venezuela air border reopening

In August 2026, Aruba began restoring air connectivity with Venezuela, ending a suspension of flights that had been in place since 2019. The process commenced on August 1 when Aruba announced the reopening of commercial air services via a NOTAM issued by Reina Beatrix International Airport. This initial phase focused on regular passenger flights, while private and general aviation remained excluded.

Following the official reopening, Aruba received its first charter flight from Caracas. Minister of Tourism, Transport and Labour Wendrick Cicilia described the arrival as a “positive sign” for the eventual restoration of regular commercial services. Negotiations were ongoing to establish technical and safety conditions, with discussions including potential frequencies of up to seven flights per week. Several airlines, including Aruba Airlines, Laser Airlines, and Aeropostal, expressed interest in the routes.

By September 2026, direct commercial air connectivity was officially restored following a test flight conducted on August 16 to evaluate logistical conditions. The inaugural commercial service was operated by Aeroparaguaná in partnership with Consorcio Helitec, connecting Josefa Camejo International Airport in the Paraguaná Peninsula to Aruba. The initial flights carried 12 passengers to Aruba and 16 on the return leg. While official schedules are still being finalized, some Aruban travel agencies have begun offering tentative tickets, with round-trip fares at approximately $550. Local commercial sectors in Falcón state have welcomed the reactivation as a means to alleviate economic isolation caused by the previous lack of direct connections.
