Asia-Pacific renewable energy sector acquisitions

Overview

The renewable energy sector in the Asia-Pacific region is experiencing a period of strategic expansion through major acquisitions.

In late September 2026, Singapore-based asset manager ESR announced an agreement to acquire 100% of Aquila Clean Energy APAC from the Hamburg-based Aquila Group. This 1.6GW portfolio includes solar, wind, and battery storage assets across Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. The acquisition is intended to support ESR’s logistics and data centre businesses by addressing rising power demands.

By mid-October 2026, acquisition activity continued within the Australian market. AESG, a global engineering firm, acquired the Australian specialist consultancy The Energy Project to bolster its capabilities in distributed energy and microgrids. Concurrently, Atmos Renewables acquired a portfolio of wind and solar projects from European developer BayWa r.e., including the Yatpool and Hughenden solar farms and the Bullawah wind and battery project. This deal increased Atmos Renewables’ operational and construction capacity to over 2GW.
