ASICS global physical activity research
Overview
ASICS has released research highlighting a global decline in physical activity levels, noting that individuals spend approximately 86% of their waking hours without movement. The study warns that 53% of adults currently fail to meet recommended activity guidelines, a figure expected to rise to 56% by 2035.
In response, the company launched the ‘Movement Conservation Project’ and a ‘Movement Conservation Status’ system. This framework categorizes activity into three levels: ‘Active’ (150+ minutes per week), ‘At Risk’ (30–149 minutes), and ‘Endangered’ (fewer than 30 minutes).
Specific regional data shows that in Poland, 56% of the population is classified as ‘At Risk’ or ‘Endangered,’ with projections suggesting this could reach 60% by 2035. The research emphasizes a correlation between activity levels and mental health, noting that those in the ‘Endangered’ category reported lower ‘State of Mind’ scores compared to the ‘Active’ group. Younger demographics, specifically those aged 18-24, appear particularly vulnerable to sedentary lifestyles across the surveyed markets.
