Asobi: Remote Play application development

Overview

Developer Inside Internet has launched a playtest phase on Steam for ‘Asobi: Remote Play’, an independent application designed to bring PlayStation games to the Steam Deck and other Linux-based systems.

The application provides two methods for gameplay: traditional remote play via a local PS4 or PS5 console, and cloud streaming. The cloud streaming feature allows users with a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription and a PlayStation Network account to stream select titles directly from Sony’s servers, similar to the functionality of the PlayStation Portal.

During the current playtest, premium features including 1080p resolution at 60fps, HDR, 4K upscaling, low-latency modes, and controller haptics are unlocked for free. Upon official release, the standard free version is expected to be limited to 1080p at 30fps, with advanced features likely requiring a one-time in-app purchase. The developer is reportedly working to expand compatibility to include other purchased digital titles in the future.
