Asp Siracusa medical technology upgrades
Overview
The Asp Siracusa has initiated a series of technological upgrades to its healthcare infrastructure and emergency services.
Initially, the ‘PTE Smart’ project was launched with a 255,000 euro investment from the Sicilian Region. This initiative focuses on enhancing emergency cardiology networks in Pachino, Rosolini, and Palazzolo Acreide through telemedicine and integrated biomedical equipment to reduce intervention times for acute myocardial infarction.
This was followed by a much larger modernization plan exceeding 5.5 million euros. This broader investment includes the installation of a digital PET/TC scanner at the Umberto I Hospital in Syracuse, expected to be operational by December 2026, and upgrades to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems. The plan also covers the acquisition of 70 electrocardiographs, 90 defibrillator monitors, and new multidisciplinary ultrasound machines to reduce patient waiting times and the need for travel outside the province.
