Assassination attempt on Vadym Yermolaiev in Monaco

Overview

In late June, a bomb exploded at the doorstep of Ukrainian millionaire Vadym Yermolaiev’s luxury apartment in Monaco, critically injuring him and a woman, and wounding a 13-year-old child.

Initially, authorities identified Anastasiia Berezovska, a 39-year-old Ukrainian woman with no known connection to Yermolaiev, as the suspected perpetrator. However, Berezovska was found dead in a shallow grave near Kyiv one week after being named a suspect.

As the investigation progressed, Yermolaiev expressed his belief that the incident was a professional contract killing involving specialists hired privately from military intelligence. While he expressed skepticism regarding direct Ukrainian government involvement, investigations have linked the attack to two detainees, one of whom is reportedly an active employee of Ukrainian military intelligence. Yermolaiev, who holds Cypriot citizenship, had previously been sanctioned by Ukraine in 2023.
