Assault on Marco Aurélio Cunha in São Paulo

Overview

Marco Aurélio Cunha, a physician and former director of São Paulo Futebol Clube, was hospitalized in intensive care following an assault in São Paulo. The incident occurred on a Wednesday night near the Clínicas Metro station when a member of a ‘gangue do quebra-vidro’ (window-smashing gang) broke a taxi window and snatched Cunha’s mobile phone.

While attempting to pursue the suspect on foot, Cunha fell on a staircase, sustaining a head injury, various abrasions, and five fractured ribs.

Following medical evaluations and a CT scan, Cunha was discharged from Hospital Samaritano to continue his recovery at home. He has been advised to rest for several weeks.
